03:04 pm - Preakness Report
I went to the Preakness yesterday and I had a good time. It is much more fun (non partying type) in the Grandstand over the Infield. I play the ponies on occasion, so it was more of my type of group to see an event like this with. I saw a Stealth Bomber and the Clydesdale horses in their best way (trotting along the dirt track). I must start taking more pictures (I brought a camera with me) at events like that. The seats were about 500 feet from the start line and had a massive TV infront of it. You can't see the backstretch on Preakness day like you can at Timonium or during the rest of the year.
There is no bigger excitement than the lead up to the Preakness. It is loud, passionate and exciting two minutes of racing. This is probably the first time a sporting event was better in person than on TV. The energy on TV can't be matched. Big Brown won the race by 5 Lengths. I think he will win the Belmont Stakes to win the Triple crown for the first time since I was a two month old (1978). You can bring in on your own food and you should ($6 for a cheeseburger without fries). I only bought drinks at the race.

09:38 am - Preakness and Balticon
The next two weekends coming up are busy for me. One is tradition for me and one is to finish my 30th birthday gifts. The Preakness is this weekend for me and I am very excited about this. This is the first time for me as an attendee. I was an usher in 1998 and just stood all day, but did help my Knights of Columbus Council. I wouldn't work the event again, but I will be attending it in the Grandstands.
Everybody is abuzz with Big Brown possibly winning the triple crown for the first time since I was a two month old (1978). He is not how you make money at the Preakness (1-2 and I think by race day 1-5 odds will do that for you). You are going to make money on the other races and Preakness Trifectas. I want to win the Preakness Trifecta because you can get $3,000 from the Trifecta in the preakness. It will also be fun seeing the frivolity of the infield from a far. Ah, I wish I was 21 and that stupid again to do the infield.
Next weekend is Balticon (a tradition in my fannish Calendar) and I will be help out Cindy Shockey in the Green Room. I will be there on Saturday and Sunday. One of these years, I will finally get to meet Tkunsman and Kevin_Standlee at a convention and hear their stories. Hopefully, next year at Worldcon in Montreal. I haven't seen the program, so I don't know what I will be seeing besides the Dealers Room and Art Show.

05:46 pm - Free Comic Book Day and other things
Tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day. This is a celebration where people get free comics for showing up to their local store. Comics and Manga have never been better, so why not give this art form a try for free. http://www.freecomicbookday.com for a list of what is being given away and where you can get them. I will be at KC Comics tomorrow at Noon to get my free comics along with my monthly box cleaning.
Iron Man movie is after that. I wish I could see it with Mark tonight to get a chance to talk, but I get out of work too late to do so. It has the hard core fans liking it, so that says something in and of itself. I am not a hard core Iron Man fan, but I do want to see the movie.
The relatively quiet weekends I am having over the next few weeks are a. for my sanity and b. because I am going to the Preakness on May 17th at Pimlico. It will be my first Preakness, so I will have a 12 hour day between getting there, the event and getting home. I will not be drinking, but will be getting a Preakness glass for mom as a late Mom's day gift. I also hope to win some Exacta's or hey how about the Preakness Trifecta. It is usually a good bet to do Exacta and Trifectas when you have a 1-5 shot in the field. I do enjoy Horse Racing as a casual fan. I am lucky to have the Preakness in my backyard.
