09:31 pm - Denvention Airfare Update and Anime Boston

I have my Airfare for Denvention today. US Airways had a $295 roundtrip fare from Denver for the dates I wanted (August 5th leaving and coming back on August 11th). I am flying out of Philadelphia instead of BWI. It is $400 for a United non-stop trip from BWI. I am honestly excited now about Worldcon. It is now about getting the money together for Worldcon. I also need to get a room for Sunday the 10th because I am leaving Denver at 7 AM on Monday the 11th, but will be at my house at about 3:15 PM on Monday. The plane has power ports, so I can watch something besides the in-flight movie.

On to the next convention, Anime Boston is next weekend for me and I am really starting to get excited about the convention. It will be a different way for me to enjoy Easter weekend, but Anime Boston rocks as a convention. The weather looks good on the 10 day forecast. The guests are going to be cool for Anime Boston with the Pillows being there. I usually don't wait in line for anything (except registration), but I will wait for the Pillows concert. The masquerade is in a very nice theatre at Anime Boston. It is in a big auditorium that seats 4,000 people. If you are going to be there, let me know and we can meet up at Anime Boston. I wonder if I should try to do a Science Fiction/Anime Convention dinner up in Boston. There are a good number of Smofers and Anime con runners up in Boston.

09:29 pm - Looking for Flight Advice

The best Flight to and from Philly is on Frontier Airlines leaving on 8/5/2008 and leaving at 11:55 PM on August 10th. I would basically be taking an overnight flight. It is a $100 on the next cheapest non-stop from BWI (not on Southwest). The trouble is that I would get home on August 11th at 5:20 AM ET and home at about 8:30 AM. Is it worth the hassle to leave for home during Dead Dog Party and get maybe 3 or 4 hours of sleep? Should I just get a room for the night at the Hyatt (where my roomshare is)and fly out for $50-100 more the next day? That is the best fare without flying on one airline and back on another or Southwest. That is what I am looking at because I think the flights aren't getting much cheaper.

09:27 am - The big summer con update

I have filed my time off for Science Fiction Worldcon. I just need to figure out the rest of the Worldcon arrangements. I have my membership, but the flight and hotel arrangements are the things I am trying to figure out. I have a room share from the 5th through the 10th. The trouble is that I would probably be staying on a cot. I have been on a cot once and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I basically slept better on a couch the next night than I did on that sofa bed the night before.

I could find my own room and see if I can find a roommate or two, but that would cost me $600 on a hopeful budget of a $1,200. Flight is going to cost me between $260 and $320 depending on airline. I almost want to stay at the hostel about a mile away from the action or the Ramada just outside of downtown and commute in. They have private rooms for $50 a night. I won't see as much partying as I would by staying at the Hyatt attached to the convention, though.

The flight is the other concern. I can get a $260 non-stop flight on Southwest, but I would have to buy a second ticket because of my size. The non-stop flight to Denver on United is $380 from BWI. I almost would rather buy a ticket on Airtran and get a Business class seat for $160 total. It isn't a non-stop trip. I could just go to Otakon and use the rest of the week for relaxing or some day trips. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.
