Anime Expo Trip and other things
The first major change to my 2008 fannish plans happened today. I have decided to go to Anime Expo this year instead of Denvention. I knew Worldcon was going to be on the East Coast next year and decided to go to Anime Expo. I have seen the last two years of great guests and events pass me by and decided to take the risk.

I also have decided that I don't want to do this alone. I am giving my fannish friends first crack at being part of this trip (for the room share part). My tenative plans are to fly out on July 2nd and come back on July 8th. The room dates are flexible, but I do want to see Universal Studios Hollywood and a Dodgers game during my visit. My room plan involves staying in one of the conference hotels. Who wants to experience Anime Expo with me? Talk to me through e-mail on that part.

I have a harder decision to make than to go to Anime Expo. That I will talk about after I make it later this week.

Guess this might sound strange, but for a convention that is only two months out, there seems to be very little info on the AMX web site.

Specifically, guests and hotel information being the two important ones are lacking to say the least.

I am not sure if I could attend a convention without knowing at least the guests they might have.
Please do NOT read this to mean I would rather have you attend the Worldcon. This was your choice, I am just expressing my feelings about going to a con in LA, and not knowing the guests at least.

The LA Convention center looks like a nice building, just saying I don't think I would fly across the country for this. Yes, I know AMX does get some big name guests, and if they come from Japan their schedule is very full, so getting a commitment until the last moment is probably the norm.

Guests have been announced. They are being flashed in a Java script on the site's main page. Jiyuki and the voice of Dante from Devil May Cry (Ruben Langdon) are the major guests so far. You take a risk with Anime Expo and guests because they announce them in May and June due to having a hard time getting commitments. I agree they don't update their website as well as some cons do.

Hotels are done when you register for the event through the registration website.. Hotels run from $125-160 a night and are all over downtown LA.
